WAMSO was founded in 1949 as the Women's Association of Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of Rosalynd Pflaum. WAMSO sponsors many activities for children including Kinder Konzerts and Young Artists Competitions. They annually sponsor the Symphony Ball with proceeds going to support the work of the Minnesota Orchestral Association. Rosalynd Mary Cohen Pflaum is noted for biographies she has written regarding French women, including Marie Curie and Madame de Stael.
